Looking for somewhere to bring the kids for a day out this summer... why not take them to see all the friendly animals at Glendeer Pet Farm, (5 miles west of Athlone, exit 13 off M6, follow signs for Drum). A visit to Glendeer Pet Farm is an interactive experience where people can feed, pet & hold some of the animals, which include deer, pigs, llamas, emu, ostrich, goats, donkeys, sheep, and lots more including monkeys, wallabies & a tortoise, not to mention all the babies the new arrivals every year incl. kid goats, llamas & pups. You don't even have to wait for a fine day to visit, because let's face it you might be waiting, Glendeer is suitable for any weather as there are indoor & outdoor picnic & play areas incl. the NEW suspended indoor play area, & a large section of the animals are also undercover. Relax in our coffee shop with fresh coffee/tea & homemade treats. |

Be amazed at how friendly all of the animals are as the wander up around you looking for food. Each child will get a bag of food to feed the animals as you make your way around the six acre farm. Why not bring a picnic along to enjoy, but beware of the greedy donkey who can spot a picnic bag a mile away & will try to join you, if they don't the hens will! There is also a lovely secluded nature trail adjacent to the old farm yard & cottage which is a nice relaxing walk & may transport the older generation back in time. Open 2013: Everyday until end September. Open: Mon - Sat 11am to 6pm & Sun 12pm to 6pm. Admission: Adults €8 & children €8 (under 18 months are free) Group rate available for groups of 20 or more, very suitable for school tours, birthday parties, special needs groups, communions & other groups. Location: 5 miles outside Athlone town, off the old N6 Directions: Take exit 13 off M6 motorway, & coming from Dublin side: take 2nd exit off 1st roundabout (following signs for old N6 & Drum), take 1st exit off 2nd roundabout, take the next right turn & go two miles up the road & its on the left. Coming from Galway side: take 2nd exit off 1st roundabout, take 3rd exit off the 2nd roundabout (following signs for old N6 & Drum), take 1st exit off 3rd roundabout, take the next right turn & go two miles up the road & its on the left. |
