Orienteering in Swan Park, Buncrana is an activity that can be enjoyed by everyone. People of all abilities, age and gender can participate in an inexpensive leisure time activity. At an introductory level it requires no more than a pair of trainers, outdoor clothing, clear plastic bag and a red pen. Add to this an element of adventure and an appreciation of the outdoors, orienteering should provide many enjoyable hours of activity.

Orienteering can be taught in the school/youth club environment leading to visits to the local parks and eventually to forest and hillsides. This course will concentrate on the local park environment and show how basic skills can be learned and put into practice with minimum preparation, travel or expense.
The accompanying maps and instructions will enable you to try out the adventure sport of orienteering. No special equipment is required and the range of suggested courses should provide suitable challenges for people of all finesses and map reading abilities.
The numbered red circles on the map indicate the position of special posts/plates (see sample at the starting point) and the descriptions which describe the exact position of these posts on the ground.
The course is a sequence of posts/plates to be visited in numerical order as quickly as possible each course is of varying map reading difficulty and length. You will notice that the courses start in three separate locations so your first challenge is to find out which one you are at!
At each post you will find a number corresponding to that on the map and a coded letter which you can copy down into the boxes to show you have found the site. We hope you enjoy this community facility.
