Best outdoor spots for families in Leitrim

So the weather has gotten a bit better and we're all seizing the opportunity to get outdoors with the children. Luckily for us in Leitrim there are no shortages of things to do or places to see, so here are some of the best places in Leitrim to get outdoors with kids and enjoy the best it has to offer.

Derrycarne Wood

About 3.5km north of Dromod is Derrycarne Wood, where there are lovely nature trails and picnic areas.

Carrick on Shannon

An easy one by the river in Carrick is the Carrick on Shannon Slí Walking Route - 5.5km and starts near the bridge, opposite the remains of the Castle Carrickdrumruske. Lovely walk along by the river in parts.

Kingfisher Trail

This is a mapped and signposted cycle route covering over 480 km (300 miles)through counties Cavan, Donegal, Leitrim and Monaghan, Roscommon and Fermanagh.  There are lots of quiet tertiary roads to cycle on too. Still, beware of traffic!

Lough Key

Strictly Roscommon I know, but so so close to Leitrim. There is an amazing children's playground in here. There is a small charge, but it's worth it. And then also Zipit, The Forest Canopy & Boda Borg for the older ones! Again with fees, but so worth it!
