5 Tips for Getting Active Outdoors

We have teamed up with Beko Home Appliances to encourage Mums (and Dads) to get active and you’ll have the chance to win fabulous prizes as we’ll be giving away a Beko appliance every month!  This month we are giving you ideas for getting active outdoors (even if it's rainy!).  Here are 5 suggestions for getting out and about and active outdoors.

#1. Take a Walk in the Woods

Pick a nearby woods or forest and take some paper and some pens and get the kids to draw a map trail of the walk around the woods and mark on any animals, trees, flowers, anything unusual that they spot on the way.  Try a Nature Scavenger Hunt or take it in turns to make a trail for each other to follow out of stones and sticks in arrow shapes.

#2. Splash it up

Head off to the beach or nearby lake, river, canal side for a walk or a bike ride (Mum could walk while your child rides their bike along side to pace her!)  Or find some nearby puddles outside.  Keep your wellies & raincoats handy (in the back of the car whenever you set out) so you don't let the rain stop you!

#3. Hold your own Mini Olympics

Set up a Mini Olympics in your garden or nearby park.  Invent some new Olympic sports or your own take on classic Olympic sports: e.g. frisbee discus, broom pole javelin.  Time each other at different sports and have a mini medal ceremony at the end to celebrate!

#4. Have a ball sports day

Grab all the ball equipment you have: football, rugby, tennis balls, beach balls and have a ball sports session with Mum, Dad and the kids. Take it in turns to throw and catch and kick. Who can throw the furthest?  Who can kick the highest?  Who can keep the ball up in the air the longest? Or why not have a game of DONKEY.

#5. Try a family skipathon!

See who can skip the most skips in e.g. a minute! Can you remember any of the skipping games you used to play at school? Teach them to your kids, it helps pass them on!

We hope you have a great time outdoors (even if it's in wellies and raincoats!).
