Weather Calendar
You will need:
- 2 sheets of coloured paper or card
- Pens & Pencils
- Ruler
- Blu-tak
- Glue
Instructions:
Take one piece of paper or card and draw 6 or 8 little rectangles at even intervals using the ruler. Older children could work out how to measure the number of rectangles evenly.
Cut round 3 sides of each rectangle, the top, bottom and right hand side, folding the fourth side, the left hand side, to create a little door.
Line up the first paper onto the 2nd sheet of paper and draw inside each rectangle on the 2nd sheet. Lift away the top sheet and draw different types of weather inside each of the 2nd sheet’s rectangles.
On the first sheet, write the corresponding weather words on the outside of the little doors.
Glue the two sheets of paper together around the edges and fasten each little door with a small piece of blu-tak to hold it in place.
You can use a ribbon or string fastened at the top corners of your calendar to hang it up or stick it on the fridge with magnets. Encourage your child to open the type of weather each day for a week.
You could also ask older children to use weather websites such as www.met.ie to check upcoming forecasts and keep a weather diary to see how often the forecasts are correct. (We often complain about the forecasts but it would be interesting to see how often the forecasts are correct!)
