As the saying goes, the best things in life are free!  So let's find some of those things to do in Cavan. You'll probably be pleasantly surprised at how much fun you have without spending a penny.  Here's some ideas for things to do for free with kids in Cavan, places where kids can play free and ideas for things to do when bored, all free!

Tullydermot Falls

These dramatic waterfalls are situated approximately 6km south-west of Swanlinbar in the direction of the Bellavally Gap.  The Tullydermot viewpoint overlooks Slieve Rushen and the lowlands of north Cavan.  There is also a good view of the summit of Cuilcagh Mountain.

Cavan Playgrounds

Kids love Playgrounds and there are new ones popping up all the time.  Instead of going to the same one time and again, why not check out neighbouring playgrounds, or try to find one you've never visited before.

Cavan Lakes

We have one for each day of the year, not many places can boast that, so why not make the most of them!

There are many fine hotels situated on the lakes which are great bases for a walk, fishing or even just to throw rocks into for younger family members.

Dun na Ri Forest and other Walks

There are lots of great walks & trails in Cavan, which are suitable for all levels of fitness.  Or why not pack a picnic and head to Dun a Ri Forest and make a wish at the wishing well?

Cavan Libraries

Check out the activities going on at your local library, or pick a book and settle down for a read.

Kilmore Cathedral, Cloughouther Castle and other historical sites

Visit historical or archaelogical sites like Kilmore Cathedral, Cloughouther Castle or the Magh Slecht.

Festivals and events

Check out our What's On section regularly.  Frequently there are free events and festivals happening around the county.

If you have any other ideas for free activities that we have missed, then please let us know in the comments below.
