Fun Family Events for August in Limerick

We are half way through the Summer holidays.Are you looking for ideas and fun family events?  Here are some family friendly events in Limerick for August that caught our eye.

Limerick FC to play Manchester City

LIMERICK FC will play FA Premier League champions Manchester City in a friendly in Thomond Park on Sunday, 5th August in a game that no soccer fan should miss.

The first team squad currently includes a galaxy of world class players such as Balotelli, Tevez, Nasri, Silva, Aguero, Hart, Clichy, Barry, De Jong, Dzeko, for example.

Hunt Museum Summer Program

The Hunt Museum has a wide range of events running over the summer for families and kids. 

Kids Arts and Crafts - first Sunday of the Month 2.30pm - 4.30pm . Each month a different topic is covered. 

Viking Workshop Mondays - Fridays at 11am. The workshop explores Ancient Norse culture, religion and industry with the aid of museum artifacts, parent-child activities and arts and crafts.

Discovery Trail Monday - Friday from 2.30pm. Make your way around the museum completing tasks and unlocking hidden treasures! Build a time line and see where each artifact belongs in human history, while learning some archaeologist’s tricks of the trade! Trails suitable for different age groups available on request.

Medieval Camp for Heritage Week 20th August - a day-long Medieval themed camp for kids! The camp will cover the Early and High Medieval periods and include a lunchtime medieval feast fit for a king or queen! Through games, role play and arts and crafts children will learn about pirates, monks and Vikings, castles, heraldry, Medieval fencing techniques and siege warfare!

Summer Fun at the Limerick Gallery of Art

Saturday Summer Family Art Workshops. Children and Adults can explore Limerick City Gallery and be inspired to make their own creations using lots of colourful materials.

Heritage Week Children's Art Camp . Budding artists will learn about the different types of art in Limerick City Gallery’s Collection and make their own portraits, landscapes, seascapes, sculpture, and still life pictures. Admittance is free and is on a first come first served basis. 

Heroes Kids Club

Heroes Kids Club is on every Saturday during the Summer at the Parkway Shopping Centre from 12 noon and features:
- Arts and Crafts,
- Story Telling
- Kids Disco, and
- Giggles The Clown and some special entertainment each week.

This event is free. 

Heritage Week in Limerick

National Heritage Week 18th - 26th August. Full details will be completed by the 14th August but already there is a fantastic array of events including:

  • Titanic Exhibition and walking tour,
  • walks and cycles,
  • evening of storytelling, 
  • early medieval metal casting,
  • interactive workshop at Foynes Flying Boat Museum,
  • Bat walks and
  • Guided tour of King John's Castle

to name but a few!
